My counselling journey started in Sydney, Australia in 2009. Whilst there I trained to become a telephone counsellor for Lifeline, a national charity. Once back on home soil in England I gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling & also a University Certificate in Counselling, both from South Cheshire College & validated by Manchester Metropolitan University.
I am an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society, and I am bound by their framework for ethics & good practice.
I take my continual professional development seriously and attend several workshops & training days each year to improve and enhance my knowledge & skills.
I undertook my placement work at Reaseheath College near Nantwich where I counselled young people, supporting them with a range of issues. I have also worked as a school counsellor for Brine Leas High School in Nantwich, supporting students in the middle school and sixth form through issues such as course work stress, bullying, peer group difficulties & family issues.
I have also worked & volunteered for The Dove Service which is a bereavement charity based in Stoke-on-Trent, offering support to those who are bereaved and affected by life changing illness.
I have a special interest in Anxiety Management & helping clients learn & develop techniques to manage their anxiety.
My training and experience allows me to support clients wishing to work on any issue & my training was based on the ‘Person-Centred’ approach.
Whilst my approach is underpinned by my Person-Centred training, I also like to work adaptively with clients, as individuals and am able to offer the following as part of the sessions if I feel it may be beneficial:
Certain issues such as Anxiety, Depression or Anger can sometimes benefit from ‘CBT’ (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) Relaxation & Breathing Techniques, Mindfulness & Meditation. Hypnotherapy (Post Graduate Certificate in Integrating Hypnotherapy with Psychotherapy- Level 7. Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy. Dr Jonathan Lloyd.
I like to endeavour to deliver these helpful strategies in a person-centred way, and discuss them with my clients as ‘something they might like to try’, or a ‘suggestion’, rather than ‘this is what they need to go away and work on between now & the next session !’
Please see my pages on this site to learn more about CBT, Mindfulness & Relaxation & Person-Centred Therapy and how they can help with Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Stress & Negative Thinking.
